so grandpa, kelsey, mom & i were eating lunch just a bit ago when we saw a cute little ground squirrel walking around our back porch. we all laughed at it, then it scampered off. a few minutes later kelsey said something along the lines of "oh my gosh! the ground squirrel just jumped in the pool!" for those of you who don't know- or don't recall- what roundtail ground squirrels are, here's a picture...
they are fairly cute little boogers, but we have some in our backyard that are quite the nuisance. they have been burrowing under the cool-decking and there is a pretty good possibiliy that they are causing some serious damage.
so... back to the story. "oh my gosh! the ground squirrel just jumped in the pool!" the rest of us start to watch it... and it was a very sad thing to watch. so i jump up to go skim it out of the pool and rescue the poor thing when mom says "wait! call your dad! i think he wants the ones in the backyard dead." so i obediently call my dad and he said, "i know it's sad, but they're causing problems." so alas... i sit back down at the table and we all continue to be fixated on this small, helpless rodent swimming frantically for its life. i felt like such a bad person... just watching its little head bob in the water... with its little feet just kicking and kicking... trying so hard to survive. mom said that she would give someone five dollars to go drown it. kelsey immediately said, "gimme ten, and i'll do it." so that's what happened. kelsey went out there and held the little squirrel under water, but this little thing was a fighter... it started hanging on to the skimmer... and then climbing up the pole. kelsey freaked out, started shaking it... and thinks she hit it in the head, because immediately after it sunk to the bottom and some sort of liquid came out of its body. my mom wanted her to hold it under for ten minutes to make sure it was good and dead... but kelsey chucked it over the back wall and into the alley. then [per the mother's request] threw a brick on it... or by it, we dont really know. kelsey ran away. and apparently so did the ground squirrel. mom went out there to look at its rotting corpse, but it was no where to be found. so we think that kelsey just knocked it out... and then the quarter piece of a brick probably didn't even hit it. that poor little creature had a really rough day. and i'm fairly certain its going to scratch out kelsey's eyes in the middle of the night.
so i guess kelsey isn't really a killer... shes just an almost killer. haha...
