{this is embarrassing, but here goes}

so... when i was younger [i think i was fifteen or sixteen] i asked for an aquarium one year from santa claus- and i got it! it was a 20 gallon and it seriously made my dreams come true. i had never had a real aquarium before, so i just started out with feeder goldfish. and i named them and i loved them. i had them for years [i even rescued a few from the ward halloween party]. and they got seriously big. they were probably 5 inches long. anyway. they were wicked sweet. and ever since i've had particular affinity for little goldfish.

well... as y'all know i have a soft spot for animals. i wish we had more. and i love the little turtles that nicole and i rescued. they make me laugh. anyway, apparently red-eared sliders are more carnivorous when young, so we've been getting red minnows for them to eat, but chip and big bertha have grown a lot and they can now eat feeder goldfish. i dont really enjoy watching them eat the fish though [austin does... haha]. so recently we've gotten on this schedule of giving them live fish once a week the night before we clean the tank [just cause it gets that much dirtier... they are messy little creatures.] well last week we went to petco [oh and a random moment... i saw i kid that i went to school with... like elementary through high school. i thought he was cool in the fourth grade, but im pretty sure that was the last time ive talked to him... i really should be better about saying hello to people i know, and yet... im not. haha.] and anyway. so im at petco getting fish... i usually get the brown ones just cause they are not as cool looking [although they do change color as they mature... the brown ones turn golden later. weird right? haha...] anyway.... they chick at petco gave us two really cool looking goldfish and i couldnt bear to see them become live turtle food. so... i set up a little fish bowl for them. and we named them goatee and tippy. they are mighty cute right?

welp... they only lived for like 2 days... then austin fed them to the turtles anyway. but at least they didnt have to get their unusually long fins nipped at while swimming around fighting for their lives. and i didnt watch.

maybe this wasnt as embarrassing as saving a snail, but the fact remains... im a softie at heart.

the end.

::

also... on a funny little note, i got a mini cheap version of a chia pet. his name is larry [like the cucumber... haha]. ill update you as his hair grows... just because it makes me smile.

the end... for reals this time.

{voting and other fun}

so... this is the first time i have really voted... i've sent in my absentee ballot a few times, but tonight i actually went to the place [well... the library] and stood in my little booth and bubbled in my vote... granted, there were only two propositions, but i totally did it! high five to me! :)

::

on another note... remember those little turtles nicole and i rescued? [these ones?] well... they are seriously getting huge. im happy theyre finally healthy and happy and growing. but theyre crazy little boogers... and pretty soon we're going to have to get a bigger tank!

::

and also... my sea monkeys are seriously the weirdest little creatures i have ever seen... theres this one with really big antennae or whatever they are. i call him king monkey... i tried to get a good picture, but my poor little camera doesnt do well with super close super little subjects... anyway. theyre 3 months old now... and still alive. can we all say "wow?"

hahaha.... :)

you can kind of see king monkey in this one ^ ... see his big antennae things?

{halloween}

halloween. part one.

friday night

we dressed up as a bumblebee, a ladybug and a cool jamaican mon. we went to the institute dance appropriately titled "monster mash." we danced. we laughed. we ran through the vortex of doom. we were startled by giant spiders falling from the ceiling. we giggled at drooping balls. we danced some more. we drank some home made root beer. we were embarrassed by a boy that was wearing much too tight biker shorts [kels... i'll tell you who that was later. lol.] we saw friends from days gone by. we missed a kelsey and a devin. and we stayed for almost two hours.

pretty impressive, yes?

halloween. part deux.

saturday

we woke up early to the smell of chocolate chipped jack-o-lantern pancakes made by a loving mama. we showered. we continued to work on halloween costumes. we made a halloween mix cd. we were joined by an adrian and a hayley [but unfortunately, no dustin]. we carved pumpkins. we made a mess. we had fun. we made yummy mummy cupcakes. we dressed up as a mama ladybug and her little buggy one, cavity sam [from "operation"] plus doctors, a bumblebee and swine flu. we took lots of pictures. we went to the ward party. we won the contest for "most artistic pumpkin" [actually, that was just austin]. we ditched the party and went to mcdonalds for mcflurries. we came back and watched the candy-crazed children trunk or treat. we left before we had to help clean up [well... all of us 'scept the bish]. we still missed a certain kelsey. we chuckled that the ward members thought me and zac were dating. we organized our halloween booty. we lit up our jack-o-lanterns and smiled. we all went to bed happy with the memories of another very successful halloween.

{feathers}

this project was for my dad.... apparently he has been doing this wood badge thing in the boy scout program for the last few weekends. anyway... he brought me a picture and asked me if i could do this, and i had to be honest... it kinda made me nervous. they actually turned out fabulous [i did 8]... and he gave them to the people in his group. he gets back tomorrow and i am anxious to hear if they liked their gifts!

[ps... i believe these are just turkey feathers and then i used acrylic paint. not too shabby, eh?]
