so. how do we begin? i was on my bed writing my favorite missionary (elder zac), when i hear tino making a ruckus down the hall. all i could really hear was something about a sledgehammer and a finger.
it piqued my interest.
turns out tino was outside splitting wood for some boyscouts going on a campout this evening (poor little suckers, it's been raining the last two days and is supposed to snow on mt. lemmon), but i still don't pity those fools. anyway. i guess austin's finger was too close and he kinda slipped and pinched the junk out of his left hand index finger. we the farr children have a fairly low tolerance for pain. needless to say, austin is not exempt from this genetic anomoly. he was freaking out cause it hurt so the mama gave him some ibuprofen, ice and called the medical help line... even though we had already contacted our personal nurse (ahem, nicole) and emt (ahem, dustin). at this point tino had settled down and realized he wasn't in fact dying. but we were already on the phone and those dear people were going through their spiel. they asked what number he was on the pain scale. he said 5 when it probably was really only a 2, but who really wants to sound like the dork who's calling about a 2. "Say eight! say eight!" (anyone, anyone?) haha... so we were already kind of chuckling... and then mom was trying to explain to the people what had happened and she kept talking about "the segment, the portion, the part, etcetera." it was funny.
poor austin is still hurting, but he'll live.

His adrenalin was surely pumping & by the time we were on the phone with the nurse, the crisis had passed and he knew he would live. Whew! What an afternoon. Good thing he could still pick up a cup with his other 3 fingers. (What an unattractive picture of both of us!)
Ok yes, I dont have a strong threshold for pain, but this really doesn't give credit to how painful it was. I sucks A LOT! Also i was just trying to do good. And yes i did freak out because I thought I did more damage at the time. Like I completely cut off all the blood to my finger and it would fall off unless there was surgery or that they would have to put leaches on it to let the anti-coagulants in their saliva remove all the blood and that a dried piece could shoot up into my heart and kill me. But I watch too much house and the adrenaline never helps wild theories.
Sorry mom always has to check my grammer. I meant to say "It" sucks A LOT! But I have been tying without a certain finger that is in disposed at the moment and is the nearest to the "t" on the key board.
oh man!!! You got me laughing just at the title so I knew this would be a good story! Sorry bud! I know "i sucks" when trying to do a good deed... it sucks... whatev!
hahaha... K not to laugh at Austin but can I just say I love your family conversation via post. lol.
Wow Austin I agree that looks like it hurt a lot and the picture Kendle sent me on my phone makes it look worse so show people that picture. I love that you watch too much house and that that story probably really did play through your mind as you where in pain.
Kendle, you remember that one time we went to the ER because you had wood in your eye... you told them your pain was a 3 and then it felt like we had to wait forever...
Then I worked in the ER here in Tucson and every time someone comes in with eye issues they get royal treatment from me. no really they do. Eye and hands are no good for injuries... I mean people get stomach aches all the time but loosing and eye or a limb no that scares me :(
I'm glad Austins finger is still intact... I hope you all rest really well tonight knowing it's not you up the freezing mountain with wood that almost took off Austin's finger!
I laughed for a solid three minutes reading this post and the comments. Tino, that's probably the funniest thing you have ever said in the cyberworld. I greatly appreciated it. And I'm glad you still have a finger. People missing fingers kiiinda freak me out, so hooray for that!
I love the "Say eight, say eight" it reminds me of chatting with Austin and Kelsey around our dinner table one evening a few years ago! Sorry about the finger Austin, it looks like it was at least an eight!
