{you win some, you lose some}

okay... so first of all, mom has been gone since tuesday [she went up to washington to pick up grandpa and bring him back here for the winter]... so i have been in charge of all the household duties and such... the cleaning the cooking and whatnot. usually when the mom leaves, the dad and the brother don't really eat... they pretty much live off of burritos and orange juice. well... i have been super good this week and have made yummy dinners for them [like chicken and stuffing and spaghetti and [homemade] meatballs... all with fruits and vegetables and junk]. im not gonna lie, ive been pretty impressed with myself... haha.

alright. so this weekend adrian and hayley came up to chill and watch conference with us. dustin needed to take rolls to his little shin-dig before the priesthood session on saturday, and adrian and i decided that we needed roll-making practice since the best roll-maker in the family [also known as our dear brilliant byu-attending sister, kelsey] is not currently here. and apparently we were right. all of my good homemaking skills obviously got jinxed the moment that adrian stepped through the door... for reals [but i still love ya, adrian!] i messed up the rolls the first time [i might have halfed the already halfed recipe... lol] they ended up a little weird looking, but okay... and dustin said that they all got eaten. so here are pictures of the first attempt at rolls:

i went shopping this week, and i got some wicked awesome strawberries [that were on sale!]... and so i decided that some angel food cake with some strawberries and a wee bit of whip cream would be yummy! i followed the directions to a t... but apparently they dont really mean that you should turn the cake upside down immediately [and by the way... "immediately" was in fact bolded and italicized]. it fell out. and smooshed itself awful flat. [and it might have been a little over-cooked. hahaha...] we picked off the slightly more than overcooked parts and flipped it over and it still tasted yummy... it was just a little funky looking! haha... anyway. its embarrasing to post these, but here are pictures:

our second attempt at rolls was this afternoon... we added a little bit of freshly ground wheat flour. and they turned out beautifully... not quite as light as the regular ones, but delicious nonetheless! we were proud of these!

The first batch of rolls turned out fine. They just weren’t quite up to par. However, the wheat rolls today were definitely Kelsey Quality! I was pretty dang proud!

For the record, the angel food cake was ALL Kendle! I told her that it needed to cool before turning it upside down. She didn’t listen. But it was seriously yummy with sensational strawberries!

Sorry I jinxed you. Although, it sure was fun!

Kels

i am so proud! the second ones look good! i have been craving the rolls hard core lately!

Laurel

I think your rolls look fantastic! And delicious, I might add. ;) I'm extremely impressed with your cooking/baking skills sans Tanya. Good job, Kendle!

Zac

This reminds me of that one time that Austin tried to bake a cake, but totally got it messed up, so he threw it over the wall into the alley. The house smelled like cake, and we couldn't have even pretended to eat a whole cake, so we made another one before your parents got home. Because a house smelling like cake better have some cake in it! Haha! That was a mighty funny day!

I agree your rolls look great. I made th exact kind of rolls this weekened but mine were out of a can.Do you remember when Grandma Marge made angel cake. YUM

Mom

Good job on the rolls. And I have never seen a problem with an angel food cake before. Weird. I'm pretty sure I turn mine upside down right away. But thanks for feeding my family.

And Zac--I do remember that cake day. Too funny. You know all our stories.
